About Us

Who We Are

We are an inter-denominational church made up of people from all walks of life who love Jesus and desire to see His Kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven. Peter Wagner, former Fuller Seminary professor and now president of Global Harvest Ministries, uses the term “New Apostolic Reformation” to describe the present worldwide move of God. The new apostolic church is one that is focused on the Kingdom of God and its King, Jesus. These churches believe in the truth of God’s Word, have expressive praise and worship, believe in the gifts and operation of the Holy Spirit and are committed to advancing His Kingdom. This describes Sojourn Church. Meet our staff and elders.

Philosophy of Ministry

We believe that Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever. He is still seeking and saving the lost, bringing all that will receive His love into eternal relationship with Him. This is not joining a church but experiencing real life, which can only come from Jesus, the source of life. Our heart cry is to know Him, not just to gather more information about Jesus or adhere to some church doctrine but to really know Him and be changed by His awesome love. We believe he still empowers His people with the Holy Spirit to be His witnesses to the world around us and that the Holy Spirit still releases His gifts through us just as He did in the book of Acts.

Our Prayer

It is our prayer that everyone who comes to Sojourn would know Jesus and continue to grow into His image, would become a disciple of Jesus, seeking first His Kingdom, would know the love of the Father, the grace of the Lord Jesus and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, and would be committed to advancing the Kingdom of God. Our heart cry is to know Him.

Why We Exist

Jesus honored His Father, preached and demonstrated the Kingdom of God and made disciples, instructing them to do the same. Therefore, we believe we exist to honor God and advance His Kingdom by becoming disciples of Jesus.

Then we will become disciples who make a difference for the Kingdom Of God.

What We Do

This is what we do and what we encourage you to do to become disciples of Jesus who advance His Kingdom.

  1. Come to the worship service to be encouraged by praise & worship, preaching, prayer, ministry and teaching of God’s word.
  2. Join a Sojourn Group to build relationships, make disciples and reach out to your neighbors.
  3. Go through Catch the Vision, our membership class, which gives you an opportunity to meet the elders and staff, and be joined to us.
  4. Attend our “Free Indeed” seminar and discover the freedom that is available to every believer through Jesus Christ.
  5. Continue to grow as a disciple of Jesus by attending the various discipleship classes and seminars offered throughout the year.
  6. Become a Lighthouse of Prayer in your neighborhood or workplace. This means simply taking responsibility to pray for your neighbors, blessing them and believing for an opportunity to share the Gospel with them.
  7. Utilize the many books and teachings that are found in our foyer and use these resources to help others, as well.
  8. Get involved with the various outreaches and missions of our church by praying, serving, going and giving.

Our History

In 1982, Terry and Susan Moore were blessed with a life-changing encounter with the Holy Spirit at a James Robison meeting. As a result, they began a home meeting in March 1983, which grew into Sojourn Church in 1987.

Motivated by a desire to worship God, to share the truth of His Word and to minister in the power of the Holy Spirit, Terry and Susan opened their home to introduce others to the awesome, life-changing love of the Father. This is still their heart today.

Our small group had no intention of becoming an “official” church, but God had other plans. Terry left the business world at the end of 1986 to become the full-time pastor of the group. We knew that God wanted our church in this geographical area and found a place to meet on Sojourn Drive in Carrollton in the North Dallas area.

After moving and expanding a couple of times, the church acquired the property now occupied and built the existing building in 1997.

God’s faithfulness has allowed our church to minister to the people in our neighborhood, the city of Dallas and even to the nations. We have been involved in and helped sponsor the March for Jesus in Dallas, Catch the Fire conferences and various other meetings to advance His Kingdom in the Metroplex. Hundreds of Sojourn members have gone on short-term mission trips, and some have even moved to the mission field.

In 1995 we helped give birth to Trinity Church Dallas, which meets in the area just north of downtown Dallas. In 2001, we planted a second church, Lighthouse Christian Fellowship in the Prosper area of Collin County.

We continue to be amazed at the opportunities that are continually before us. The Lord is truly good and He orders our steps.

We can truly say that God is Faithful.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What kind of church is this?
We endeavor to be a “New Testament” church, as we see described in Acts 2:37-47.
  • What do you believe?
We believe that Jesus is the only way to the Father and that the Bible is infallible and the basis of knowing how to live. We believe the Holy Spirit still manifests His power today, just like He did in the book of Acts.
  • How is the church run?
We believe that Jesus is the head of the Church and delegates the responsibility to run the local church to elders, whom He has chosen. Within this group there is one called the senior elder or senior pastor, who is primarily responsible for the vision and direction of the local church.
  • What about money?
We believe that the Bible teaches us the grace of giving and that each member should participate in the financial support of the local church. The elders are very conscious that they are only stewards of the Lord’s money and carefully account for it through proper accounting practices, the use of annual budgets and outside audits.
  • Why do you praise & worship the way you do?
Our praise and worship is patterned after what we see in both the Old and New Testaments of the Bible.
  • How do I join Sojourn?
You join Sojourn by attending and completing our “Catch the Vision” class. It is scheduled throughout the year and is a prerequisite both for membership and for being in a position of leadership at Sojourn.
  • Where did the name Sojourn come from?
When we started the church, our first location was on Sojourn Drive. After much prayer we believed that Sojourn (meaning to dwell as a foreigner, knowing that our true citizenship is in heaven) was the name God wanted for us.
  • How do I get more involved?
The primary way to get involved at Sojourn is to come to one of the weekend worship services, attend the various special meetings and join a Sojourn Group. Sojourn Groups are small groups that meet in homes, businesses, or at Sojourn. They are the primary way to build relationships, receive pastoral care and come under the authority and protection of the church.
