During his last discourse with his disciples, Jesus promised them that he would not leave them as orphans, but would send the Helper to make real to them the same relationship he had with the Father (John 14:18-20). They would know (consciously) that Jesus is in the Father, they were in Jesus, and Jesus was in them. This was an amazing promise. It was as radical a thought as had ever been in their minds. Was Jesus really saying that they could have the same sense of intimacy with the Father as Jesus had?
